St Kilda is Melbourne's best-known bayside suburb, and most of the action is along the water — the St Kilda Beach foreshore, St Kilda Pier, Catani Gardens and the O'Donnell Gardens near Luna Park. The foreshore has several public toilet blocks spaced along the promenade, which are the obvious stops on a beach day, and the area around Luna Park and the Palais Theatre is well served thanks to the crowds it draws.
Away from the sand, the two main strips — Acland Street, with its famous cake shops, and Fitzroy Street, lined with bars and restaurants — are café-dense, so patrons are rarely far from a facility. The St Kilda Botanical Gardens a few blocks back from the beach have toilets near their main entrance and make a quieter alternative to the busy foreshore.
St Kilda transforms in summer. Beach days, the Sunday Esplanade Market and big events like the St Kilda Festival bring huge crowds, and the foreshore facilities can be stretched — arriving with a plan helps. Foreshore and park toilets generally close in the evening, so after dark lean toward Fitzroy Street's venues and the 24-hour options on the map, and use the 🕐 Open Now filter to check before you walk.
The foreshore and the gardens are the most family-friendly, several with baby-change facilities, and the flat promenade makes getting around with a pram straightforward. Accessible cubicles are available along the foreshore but vary in size, so if you have specific requirements the ♿ Accessible filter is the fastest way to find a suitable one nearby.
